What do I have to do to get into UNC?
I live in Raleigh, North Carolina.(in state). I am a freshman and have a 4.6 gpa and am involved in a club called NC-HCAP that is involved with UNC hospital and we learn about health careers and how to prepare for them. What responsibilities do I need to take on or clubs do I need to join or classes do I need to take to get in? Please help.
4.6 out or 5? Not bad. Just try to do a bang-up job on your SAT or ACT, and take the most challenging courses offered that you are eligible for and you should be in pretty good shape.
There aren’t any “magic” clubs you join that carry more weight than any other club. What colleges like to see is a sustained interest in at least a couple of areas. Volunteering a day a year because your school might have a service requirement isn’t going to impress anyone — visiting a homeless shelter each month for three years is a sustained interested and effort. Joining four or five clubs your senior year to “impress” isn’t going to work — admissions offices see through that in a second. Find something you like, that you have a passion for, and STICK WITH IT. If that means band, then join the marching band (or jazz band, or whatever) and do it for three or four years. If it means drama, work on productions for three or four years. If it means track, then join the track team — and do it for three or four years. Starting to see a pattern? Now, that doesn’t mean you can’t be trying other things, too — after all, if you join the photography club one year and realize that you can’t hold a camera steady to save your life, then try something else. But there should be something in your resume at the end of your junior year that should show a sustained interest in one or two things, either at school, at church/synagogue, or in the community.
Good luck! I loved UNC when I went there, and my child is there now (from out of state) and loves it, too!

Legalizing Marijuana: Costs vs Benefits

Boot camps remind people of military training of the recruits designed to make them both physically and mentally tough and stronger. However, the fitness centers and trainers have now adopted the concept as well as this format of training across the United States. There are a wide variety of boot camps catering to the needs of different groups of people. While the exercises may vary depending upon the instructor and the needs of the participants, the basic design of a boot camp pushes the participants harder than they can individually push themselves. This is the core concept borrowed from the military training camps.
Physical fitness is an issue that is equally important to all groups of people. However, it is critically important for elderly people who are being worn out by the increasing age. People at the advanced stages of life have to constantly struggle for fitness and very often it is a battle for survival for them. For instance, they find it increasingly difficult to carry out their daily routine by themselves and often have no one to count on.
Joining a boot camp designed for people of advanced age group is a wonderful way to increase their fitness levels so that they can comfortably perform at least simple tasks such as getting in or out of the car, carry grocery bags, sit on and stand from chair or ground, walk up and down at least some stairs, etc on their own. In fact, the training format of boot camps are ideal for them because they offer several additional benefits not available elsewhere.
Elderly people are often lonely and feel cut off from the mainstream social life enjoyed by rest of the younger population. The atmosphere of a boot camp, particularly of elderly age group, is often full of encouragement and camaraderie. This atmosphere of friendliness and mutual support gives them an added source of strength besides the benefits of the physical exercises. Such a social environment is hard to find anywhere else in other forms of fitness workouts.
In the hands of a good trainer, this form of fitness training becomes a group sport where the spirit of teamwork and cooperation run very high. The workouts in the typical gym atmosphere lack this highly rewarding quality of a boot camp. When people try exercising on their own, the real issue is loss of motivation and laziness; as a result, the activity loses momentum and does not sustain for long. Even if some one is able to work out alone, the healthy benefits of group dynamics are still missing.
The fitness of older people involves both the body and the mind. They are not only experiencing the aging effect in the form of gradually losing physical stamina and control over their bodies, they are also plagued by the increasing sense of boredom, loneliness and helplessness. They also feel that the sphere of their activities is constantly shrinking and they are unable to do anything about it. Hence, the setting of a boot camp has everything they need – both physically and emotionally.
This form of fitness training also comes at a very low cost because all the members of the group share the cost of the trainer. By nature the activities are varied and exercise the whole body in a session of one hour. Good trainers see to it that the routine of exercises do not become monotonous or boring like the gym or cardio exercises. Hence, they do everything to keep monotony away and motivate the group to keep exercising regularly. Looking at all the benefits, a boot camp is an ideal style of workout to keep fit – both physically as well as mentally – by the elderly.

Why are people mean to Steroid users?
I’M NOT USING STEROIDS—At my job I come in and work and do the task at hand. I have been training my body for some time(I try to look like Vegeta from DragonBallZ LOL) Anyway I bring fitness magazines, protein shakes and other fitness things to work. The owner, other workers and even part of the owners family have started making steroid comments. They are not joking around. Why does this happen?
hha dude i LOVE the vegeta idolising he’s HOT haha if not kinda cocky but with good reason lol. They do it coz they need to find a justification for how and why you look that good other than hard work and determination-coz clearly none of them, have it! just laugh in their face and be like yeah, ok whatever man its called hard work. screw them dnt let them get u down.

Costs of Dedicating my life To MMA?
I recently became interested in MMA
I just turned 23 years old.
Is it too old to start training in MMA
in hopes of making a career out MMA
HERE are few questions i have, and would appreciate hearing from people who have knowledge in this field.
what kind of opportunities will MMA bring into my life?
How will it Improve my life ?
What else can I do with what I learned??
I want to know everything possible about MMA and joining the UFC
How much do classes average to in cost. Jitsu & Muay Thai
How much salary do MMA fighters & UFC fighters make ?
Are there any good schools for MMA in Sacramento CA
Is there any exercises I can do at the gym,
to help me get in shape for this kind of style
How long will I have to train to be able to compete
What do i do, 2-3 years from now, when i am ready to compete in my first match ?
In answer to your questions.
1.Its never too late to enjoy a sport. They have 50 year olds competing around the place for the first time. To be a champion is different but 23 is definetly still young enough for sure. There are quite a few UFC guys who started later with little specific fighting background. Evan Tanner, Ian freeman etc.
2. The main oppotunities will be enjoyment and meeting people. You are respected whenever you walk into a room. The best boxer, the biggest wrestler, a special forces soldier attending a class all pay a lot of respect to the guy who can take them out in hand to hand. And you will get to meet all these guys eventually.
As to financially -there is not much money in MMA yet like there is in football, boxing or NBA. Its still mostly amateur-* even a lot of the actual ‘pro’ UFC guys still have to teach clubs and do seminars to make ends meet.
However these are opporunties in thesmelves and the sport may suddenly become more lucrative soon if Dana White stops being such a tightwad.
3. Once you are real good you can give self defence classes to the public, to the military like I did, do bodyguard work too.
4. classes don’t cost too much. Will depend on region and what it specialises in. I suggest looking up the biggest name in your locale and going along and saying you want train with them.I always did that with boxing. Even if you don’t turn out to be elite level, you can learn a lot from successful people just hanging out with them.
5. Back to the salary. Not much like I said. The sport is still poorly regulated and Dana white and the fertitia brothers have a strangle hold on the fighters. The top most famous guys like couture and tito in the day might have been on a few hundred thousand a fight and good sponsorship.
But the lesser fighters on the same UFC night are still on only a few thousand which is pathetic. Same for the lesser MMA comps. That’s why these guys have to make so many hokey training videos and run clubs in their spare time to survive.
Don;t see top boxers or NBA players have to do that…
So look at it as amatuer at first, that you are not doing it for the money anyway ,and see what happens later. At the very least you can open a club one day and some of them make good money.
4.Log onto Sherdog.com to ask about schools in your area. Remember choose the biggest name you can find who will train beginners :)
5.There are many exercises you can do at the gym. Start training first and ask your trainer what he recommends. In the meantime any body building program a gym gives you is a good way to get your muscles used to lifiting weights. After you start training you can change it to more fight specific moverments.
Do some running each day is the other best form of fitness. When you start your lungs huffing and puffing, and tired arms will take you a few weeks to get used to.
6.To compete. Depends on your coach and how much you train. Take it seriously, don;t miss classes and put in 4-5 nights a week and 6 months is possible.
2-3 years? No way you will have had 5-6 fights by then if you want :)
7. sorry if my answer numbers don’t match I was not checking them lol.
