How long will it take me to get fit?
Uhm I used to do swimming a LOT – I learnt to swim and basically went on to do all the badges and certificates I could, then when I finished them I joined a club – but I quit it because I’m not a competitive swimmer although I used to be pretty fast. I was about 8 when I noticed my stomach had started to tone… then when I was 11 I quit because I went to a really good secondary school and I didn’t have enough time to swim for so much time – I’m 15 atm and pretty out of shape, I’m not fat, and my BMI is within the normal range for my heigh and stuff, but I’m REALLY unfit like I get tired running short distances XD
So I’m almost 16 and considering training to be a life guard, and you can get your certificate without being VERY in shape but I’d prefer it to be that way… so summer is coming up, so I can swim like 2/3 times almost every week, more if that’s advisable… how long would it take me to get back to a really good fitness and start toning?
It really depends on how hard you push yourself, how you are eating, and whether you take appropriate breaks so the muscle has time to rebuild.
You are young, so it shouldn’t take too long, I would say it is likely you would start seeing pretty good results within a few months, since you aren’t overweight right now.
Just watch your diet, lots of fruits and veggies, lean protein, energizing whole grains, etc, drink lots of water, and push yourself hard, not too hard, but if you stay at your comfort level you wont tone up as fast.
You can also consider some calisthenics thrown into your day to day (do crunches and pushups, etc when you wake up) for an added boost.
